The tunnel is open 24 hours a day from Sunday to Friday from December to April, with special and restricted opening hours on Saturdays. Due to construction work, the tunnel is partially closed at night from May to the end of August. From September to November 23, 2023 the tunnel is closed 24 hours a day. You can find the detailed opening hours here.

Arrival is possible until 06:00 am and again from 10:00 am.

Departure is possible in the morning until 09:00 am and in the evening, at the earliest from 06:00 pm.

You have the choice between buying two single tickets (summer outward journey / winter return journey) or a summer return ticket. With the latter, a surcharge (fare: single journey winter, purchase on the spot) will be charged at the paying agency on the return journey.

It is possible to buy e-tickets for multiple vehicles. When purchasing multiple tickets, you will receive one ticket with multiple valid QR codes. The e-ticket can be passed on to the other vehicles in paper or electronic form.

You can buy the return ticket valid from Sunday to Friday. The return journey can be made on all weekdays including Saturday.

Online tickets can only be purchased in CHF. The amount will be charged to you in your local currency at the bank's current exchange rate.

It is possible to buy your ticket on site at the tunnel exit (Italian side). We accept cash payments in CHF or EUR (no EUR coins / change in CHF only) or EC-/ and credit cards. However, if you buy a ticket on site, you will not benefit from any discount.

There is no discount on individual tickets. However, value tickets can be purchased at special rates at the tunnel toll station (see section Prices).

During the winter months (November to April) we strongly recommend that you equip your vehicle with winter tyres. If your car does not have four-wheel drive, we also recommend carrying snow chains.

The maximum vehicle height is 3.60 m, the maximum vehicle width is 2.55 m.

The tunnel has a length of 3.5 km and is only passable with one lane.

The tunnel Munt La Schera is privately owned by Engadiner Kraftwerke AG. The fee must be paid for the use of this private tunnel.
